Bloggers should, wherever possible, illustrate their articles or posts with some kind of graphic element – a table that adds extra information, or a photograph that carries an emotional charge. The Australian app PhotoFunia allows you to create highly distinctive images. The blogger or journalist starts from a real picture – say the face of a politician, an actor or a footballer. Then, with a simple tap, they drop that face into one of the background scenes offered by the app. The two are merged to generate a new, very original image. A concrete example helps. I am writing about Maradona. I have a close-up photograph of the former Argentine star. Among dozens of options, PhotoFunia offers me a larger image of a billboard fixed to the side of a New York skyscraper. I then place my photo of Maradona inside that billboard. The result is a striking composition, an extra visual hook that brings a touch of freshness to my blog or news site. Two words of advice. First, do not overdo it. Not every post or article, in our view, needs to be dressed up with a PhotoFunia-style image – you risk boring your readers. And above all, avoid making people look ridiculous by dropping them into outlandish or excessively comic scenarios.
