Pinnacle, a US company founded in 1986, is one of the most storied names in video editing. It is well placed, then, to offer this video-editing app, which is both easy to use and highly effective. The reporter opens the app and taps the ‘+’ symbol to create a new project and give it a name. They then select, at the bottom right, one or more clips from the iPhone or iPad camera roll – the footage they want to work on. These videos are dragged into the centre of the screen, into a standard timeline that shows both pictures and audio.The controls are straightforward. Three taps on the screen, for example, separate the video from its soundtrack. A yellow razor-blade tool lets you cut the clip at the beginning, in the middle or at the end. The finished piece – exported as an MP4 file, a very useful format – can be shared on YouTube, Vimeo or Facebook by tapping the white arrow in the top right-hand corner. It can also be saved back to the camera roll or to your Dropbox space.
