DRONE EXPOSES THE WALL. A drone that reports the news. A drone as a tool of social protest. In December 2014, bloggers from the collective Volante y Radante launch their drone to show the world what they call “the wall of shame”. It is a 10-kilometre barrier topped with barbed wire that cuts between two historic districts of Lima in Peru: the wealthy enclave of Las Casuarinas and the poor neighbourhood of San Juan de Miraflores. The news agency Efe, the first to pick up the footage, highlights the tiny shacks where children seek shelter, wooden houses lit only by candles, animals mingling with people — and, on the other side, Hollywood-style villas worth up to 3 million dollars. The drone also captures images of those opposing the barrier, including the “Brigada Muralista” and “Collectivo Hambre”, who have painted a section of the wall to express their dissent peacefully.
